Quick answer: Enshrouded 1.0 is out on PC (Steam) and PS5, with PS5 Pro support, since October 15, 2026. The Xbox Series X|S version is delayed to spring 2027. There is no crossplay: PC plays with PC, the Steam Deck included, and PS5 plays with PS5, and Keen gives no date for cross-platform play. The official dedicated server joins the Steam lobby and authenticates every player through Steam, so only the Steam version can connect to it.

The PS5 version did not trail behind as a later port: it launched on the same day PC left Early Access. Console players start at 1.0, without ever having lived through the Early Access years, while PC players arrived with saves that 1.0 had to back up and migrate to a new format.

Why Xbox slipped

The Xbox Series X|S edition was planned for the 1.0 date and moved to spring 2027. Keen's CEO Jan Jockel explained that Enshrouded's deep terraforming and large-scale building proved more demanding on console than the team anticipated, and that Keen chose to get each version right rather than rush both. That is a believable reason for this particular game. Enshrouded's world is a voxel world players dig, blast and rebuild, and every change is data the game has to store, stream and synchronise. A fixed-map survival game has far less to prove on a console's memory budget than one where a 16-player group can hollow out a mountain.

Until the Xbox version ships, no Xbox player joins a PC or PS5 world, and any question about PS5 and Xbox playing together is theoretical.

No crossplay, and what Keen actually said

Keen Games' launch FAQ of October 13, 2026 is unambiguous: Enshrouded will not be cross-platform at launch, Keen is working on cross-platform play, and it cannot give an estimate. That leaves two closed worlds for the foreseeable future, PC with PC and PS5 with PS5. There is also no announced tool to move a save between PC and console, and characters live with the player rather than the world: on PC a character is a file on your own disk, which is exactly why it cannot follow you to a PlayStation.

It is worth being honest about what crossplay would take here. Mixed-platform 16-player servers would need every platform on the same game version on the same day, because world and character versions must match, and patch cadence on consoles is not under Keen's sole control. Anti-cheat and certification differences add to that. None of this means crossplay will not come, only that "working on it, no estimate" should be read literally.

Dedicated servers are a Steam-only world

Keen ships an official dedicated server as a separate Steam app. It is a Windows program, and the way it talks to players settles the console question on its own: the server joins a Steam lobby, advertises itself there, runs a Steam authentication session against every client that tries to join and then talks to players over Steam's networking. A PS5 client has no path into that. No setting changes it.

Within that world the server is generous. It holds up to 16 players per world, keeps the world across restarts, reads everything from one enshrouded_server.json, and gates access with password-protected user groups. The default file ships four of them: Admin, which can kick and ban and has full base rights, Friend, which builds and uses chests but cannot extend bases, Guest, which can change the world but not bases, and Visitor, which can change neither. Keen's 1.0 changelog left those groups and passwords working as before, added an Automatic setting for the number of enemies per encounter based on the players nearby, and listed server-side measures to cut CPU load and memory use for server-client communication.

How much machine that takes, and why CPU clock speed and upload bandwidth matter more than the memory figures most guides quote, is covered in our Enshrouded dedicated server requirements piece. The short version for console-curious groups: the hardware question only exists on the PC side, because the PC side is the only one a dedicated server can serve.

The Steam Deck is the bridge, not the consoles

Keen announced on October 23, 2026 that Valve had rated Enshrouded 1.0 Steam Deck Verified. Because the Deck runs the Steam version, it is the one handheld that drops straight into PC worlds and PC dedicated servers. For a group where one person has no gaming PC, a Deck is today the only way to share a world with the PC players, and the only way at all to reach a dedicated server without a PC.

What 1.0 changed for co-op groups on the same platform

While the platform split decides who can play together, 1.0 changed how a group plays once it is together. Keen's changelog and combat posts list the parts that matter most to a shared world:

  • Every skill tree resets the first time an existing save is played in 1.0, and the level cap rises to 50 with equipment going to 55. A returning group re-spends its points, which is a natural moment to split roles.
  • Nine new spells and new wand, mage and archer skills broaden what a support player can do for the group.
  • Early Access saves carry over: 1.0 backs a save up and migrates it to a new, smaller format on first load. Keen still strongly encourages starting over, because the world and the first hours changed.
  • Encounter scaling: the server setting for enemies per encounter gains an Automatic option that follows the players actively playing nearby, and the enemy damage slider has new values.
  • Sparkworks, a logic system that wires inputs such as levers and pressure plates to outputs such as doors and trapdoors, which turns a shared base into a group project in a new way.

How to read the next crossplay announcement

When Keen does talk about cross-platform play again, three details will tell you what it means for your group. First, which platforms: PC with PS5, or consoles with each other once Xbox exists. Second, whether it covers dedicated servers, or only worlds hosted by a player; today's dedicated server is built on Steam's lobby, authentication and networking, so serving console players would need a different path. Third, how saves and characters work across platforms, since characters live with the player today. An announcement that answers only the first question is a start, not a solution for a mixed group.

What mixed groups can do today

  • All on PC or Deck: the easy case. Host from the game or run a dedicated server for a world that stays up when the host logs off.
  • All on PS5: play together on PlayStation; the Steam dedicated server is irrelevant to you.
  • Split between PC and PS5: you cannot share a world. Pick one platform for the group, or bring the odd one out onto a Steam Deck.
  • Someone waiting for Xbox: nothing to choose until spring 2027, and no date for crossplay with PC after that.
